The Talando — [⁰⁵:³⁰]

At 5.30 am, the talando rings out, calling each of us to leave behind our cherished solitude and our private communion with God, so that the community may gather in the church and, with one voice, sing of the Creator of all things, the Giver of life and Light. We draw strength and inspiration from reciting the words our Fathers and Mothers composed over the centuries; we join the Great Mystical Body, which, in heaven and on earth, is united in the same praise. The "talando" is a portable piece of wood, which is struck with a wooden mallet whilst walking.
